Gravis Robotics is a startup turning heavy construction machines into intelligent and autonomous robots. Our unique combination of learning-based automation and augmented remote control enables a single operator to safely manage a fleet of earthmoving machines in a gamified environment. With over a decade of academic experience at the cutting edge of large-scale robotics, our team is rapidly translating this expertise into real-world deployments with industry leaders in a trillion-dollar market.   About the Job At Gravis, we operate at the intersection of hardware, software, and real-world deployment. Our Rooftop Autonomous Control Kit (RACK) integrates sensing, compute, communication, and networking into a manufacturer-agnostic solution deployable across a wide range of construction machines.   As a Field Robotics Engineer, you will play a central role in delivering customer projects and ensuring our systems meet the highest standards of reliability and performance. This hybrid position combines hands-on technical execution with ownership of customer deployment projects from planning through delivery.   You will work closely with R&D and Operations to coordinate end-to-end deployments, continuously improving how we plan, test, and deliver our solutions. You will lead on-site setup and commissioning, engage directly with customers throughout project execution, and help translate complex robotic system behavior into reliable real-world performance. Your ability to understand and troubleshoot integrated robotic systems will be essential to maintaining and advancing the robustness of our field operations. Your Responsibilities • Lead the technical execution of customer deployment projects from start to finish. • Own end-to-end technical planning, coordination, and follow-up in close collaboration with Operations. • Serve as a trusted technical point of contact for customers throughout the deployment lifecycle. • Provide hands-on technical support and guidance to customers and end users. • Perform regular system testing to ensure reliability, robustness, and performance. • Generate performance reports and work with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve issues quickly. • Contribute to continuous improvement of deployment processes, tooling, and best practices. Required Qualifications • University degree (including degrees from universities of applied sciences / fachhochschule) in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. • Strong experience deploying, integrating, and debugging robotic software systems. • Experience with the ROS ecosystem. • Solid Linux proficiency. • Fluency with Git or other version control systems. • Good programming skills in C++ and Python. • Willingness to travel to customer sites (including internationally, depending on project needs). • Valid Category B driving license. Beneficial • Hands-on mechanical or electronics experience (hardware assembly, basic soldering). • Experience with communication protocols such as CAN. • Previous customer project or technical project management experience. • Professional or native proficiency in German. • Practical experience repairing vehicles, machinery, bicycles, or electronics. • Experience operating or working with construction or agricultural machinery.
